Meet Our Horses
-
Ember
Once a feral horse living with a herd on an abandoned strip mine in the mountains of West Virginia, Ember (formally Cha Cha) was rescued by the Kentucky Humane Society and started under saddle by Days End Farm Horse Rescue (MD). Ember serves as a training project for students with more advanced horsemanship skills. Ember shows incredible potential to become a participating member in all programming in the future.
-
Isa
Isa is a Pony of the Americas mare who, as a mere four-year old, is doing an incredible job teaching our students. Isa was brought to LTC’s attention by a local horsewoman and one dollar later she became a permanent resident.
-
Pete
Pete is a Quarter HorseX gelding with a wonderful laid-back personality, which is not to be confused with apathy. He will tolerate only the authentic and nothing less. Pete was rescued by Omega Horse Rescue (Pennsylvania).
-
Sailor
Sailor is a Tennessee Walking Horse gelding who touches so many with his desire to give humans a second chance after all he has been through. Sailor was rescued by a local good samaritan after learning he was being physically abused. His rescuer gifted Sailor to LTC after seeing his potential to inspire change.
-
Red
Red was rescued by a local good Samaritan who diverted a truck from a Texas auction headed to Mexico where he was destined to become canned dog food. As the only survivor of the truck load, it took LTC almost a year to find the right situation for Red, but he is now owned by a wonderful Richmond woman who dotes on him and will give him the end-of-life care he deserves. And, she also lets us use him for our programming!
-
Willow
Willow is a MorganX mare who combines the seemingly impossible balance between unending patience and demanding of excellence. Willow was rescued by Days End Farm Horse Rescue (Maryland).
-
Cisco
Cisco was generously donated to LTC as a program horse as his former owners wanted a soft landing for this older guy. He is a prime example of how a thoughtful owner can keep their horse out of needing rescue by giving plenty of time to find the right placement. The former owners were searching for years before Cisco made his way to LTC.
